An important focus area in our environmental efforts is waste reduction and responsible waste management, including reuse and recycling.
We set targets for reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill, maintaining high recycling rates, and retiring PCB-containing equipment. To achieve these targets, TMK pursues its Waste and By-Product Management Program till 2027.
Initiatives taken under the Program helped to fully restore the land disturbed by sludge storage operations, increase the share of recycled steelmaking waste to 95%, and minimize the volume of waste sent to landfill. The Company regularly implements measures to increase waste recycling.
For handling waste that cannot be recycled, TMK leverages cutting-edge disposal solutions. For example, in the Volgograd Region, the Company has built and operates an advanced landfill using encapsulation technology. This technology prevents the negative impact of landfill production and consumption waste on the environment not only during the landfill’s active life but also after the facility is closed.
TMK places top priority on ensuring that waste disposal facilities comply with legal requirements and on reducing their potential impact on the environment. Constant monitoring of the environmental conditions is conducted at waste disposal facilities.
