TMK upgrades steel production through cooperation between its production sites

ETERNO, a TMK company, manufactured and delivered a custom-made grab bucket to TMK – Yartsevsky Metzavod (TMK-YMZ), also a TMK company.

The bucket, which is part of a new heavy engineering product line, is used to pick up and transport metal charge to an electric arc furnace. The 14-tonne bucket, 3.8 meter high and more than 4 meter wide, is made of structural low-alloy steel and holds 25 tonnes of charge.

Denis Makienko, Director for Machine-Building Business Development, said, “TMK is actively developing inter-plant cooperation, increasing synergies and leveraging the best competences to upgrade own production facilities. Cooperation between ETERNO and TMK-YMZ began in 2021 with the supply of a steel ladle, continued with the manufacture of the grab bucket and will develop further going forward.”

Viktor Novikov, Managing Director of TMK-YMZ, said, “TMK continues its investment program at Yartsevsky Metzavod to modernize, revamp and retrofit its production facilities. One of the program’s goals includes boosting the output of the electric arc furnace (EAF), including by increasing the charge weight by 5% or more. This requires a larger volume of loaded scrap metal, which is enabled by the new grab bucket bought from ETERNO.”

Previously, ETERNO shipped a similar product – a scrap bucket – to Pervouralsk Pipe Plant (PNTZ), also part of TMK. The company’s order book also includes several dozen implemented engineering solutions for a new line of custom-made products, including roller units of a continuous casting machine, turntable support frame, steel casting ladles, and an EAF bath.
