TMK and Gazprom sign R&D cooperation program for 2021–2025

TMK and Gazprom have signed a comprehensive scientific and technical cooperation program for 2021–2025 on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum (SPIGF 2021). The program is designed to meet Gazprom’s needs for innovative pipe and tubular products and provides for joint development of high-tech tubular solutions, development of service products, as well as research and cooperation in other areas.

The document was signed by Sergey Chikalov, First Deputy CEO for Operations and Development at TMK, and Oleg Aksyutin, Deputy Chairman of Gazprom’s Management Committee and Department Head.

The program will focus on two main areas: the development of new types of pipe and tubular products – large diameter and seamless pipes, including for offshore projects, – and best practice sharing, research, service and field exploration. Gazprom will identify the key research and technical challenges to the construction and operation of trunk gas pipelines and other facilities for TMK to conduct relevant innovative research and development, as well as technology projects.

“TMK has been developing high-tech solutions for Gazprom for about 15 years now. We supply high-strength steel pipe, products for use in the Arctic, offshore or aggressive environments with high hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide content. All this was made possible through by close scientific and technical cooperation and joint efforts of our specialists across all steps of the production chain, from task setting to testing, certification and product acceptance. The new scientific and technical cooperation program will add further momentum to this effort, promote the development and launch of advanced domestic products and ultimately strengthen the Russian industry’s position on the global market,” said Sergey Chikalov.

“Russia’s energy industry is facing new technological challenges today. Gazprom responds by joining forces with its partners from the relevant industries: we design and introduce innovative products to develop fields which were considered challenging until recently. We also actively pursue import substitution, favoring advanced domestic technologies to improve Russia’s energy security. The new program for our cooperation with TMK will promote the development of such products, improve the construction and operation of natural gas production, transportation and processing facilities, all while ensuring safety and conformity of new equipment to the highest technical standards,” said Oleg Aksyutin.
