TMK comes fourth in the steelChallenge global steelmakers’ championship

TMK came fourth in the online World Championship of steelChallenge, held annually by the World Steel Association.

This year, the competition was held for the 15th time. TMK participated in the competition for the second year running, reaching the final for the first time after winning the Regional Championship at the end of 2020. Alexander Nesmeev, an employee of TMK’s Seversky Pipe Plant, competed for the title of champion in the Industry category.

TMK represented the Europe and Africa region. Alexander’s rivals were employees of leading metallurgical companies from Brazil, India, China and South Korea. The contestants had to model the process of melting steel of a given grade using online simulators of secondary refining and continuous casting on the steelUniversity portal.

“The good results shown by TMK steelmakers at the regional and world championships indicated the high technological level of our production facilities. This is also a natural outcome of talent development focus maintained by TMK and strongly supported by its management. We provide our employees with an entire range of opportunities for self-development, use cutting-edge international best practices and help our colleagues to find motivation and achieve desired results in their professional careers. This year, TMK2U Corporate University provided its SOTA2U HR platform for the first time to offer training for steelChallenge, which helped our colleagues to hone their skills and deliver strong perfromance,” said Elena Pozolotina, Deputy CEO for Human Resources – Director of TMK2U Corporate University.

The steelChallenge championship has been held annually since 2005. Contestants compete in two categories – students and industry – and five regional groups: the Americas, Asia – East and Oceania, Asia – North, Asia – West, and Europe and Africa. Russian metallurgists compete in the Europe and Africa group. This year, the TMK team swept the board in the Industry category of the Regional Championship.
