TMK runs a safety audit across its facilities as part of Steel Safety Day 2021

TMK carried out industrial safety audits at its facilities and identified a number of measures to improve working conditions following Steel Safety Day 2021, an annual event held under the auspices of the World Steel Association.

TMK has been participating in Steel Safety Day (SSD) for six years now. This year, the Company’s new assets, including Pervouralsk Pipe Plant (PNTZ) and Chelyabinsk Pipe Plant (Chelpipe), also joined in the relevant events. As part of SSD, the Company improves working conditions at its facilities, eliminates the potential impact of hazardous production factors, and involves as many plant and contractor employees as possible in the process.

Preparations for SSD 2021 spanned several months, during which TMK plants and contractors implemented the measures resulting from the previous inspections, and audited production facilities for new potential risks. The focus was given to the most common causes of work-related injuries identified by the World Steel Association: process safety, moving machinery and mechanisms, falling from height, falling objects, and on-site traffic.

To mitigate the relevant risks, TMK is upgrading its plants’ infrastructure. Over the past year, new guarding was installed, along with protection systems, racks for safe storage of products and technological tools, specialized areas and fixtures facilitating employees’ work, and other equipment. In addition, modern IT solutions are being introduced, including digital assistants for walkaround inspections used to record breaches and arrange for remedial measures in a digital format.

“TMK employees are our most valuable asset; their safety is a strategic priority for the Company. We regularly assess risks, mitigate them and adopt best practice in occupational health and safety. At the same time, we recognize that we can only achieve zero injuries by directly involving employees as they are the primary actors in ensuring compliance with workplace safety rules. With this in mind, the Company is enhancing its operational culture and involving employees in the process of identifying safety risks. Employees’ ownership of safety is yielding tangible results: the accident rate was down 28% in 2020,” said Igor Korytko, CEO of TMK.
