TMK hosts steel summit at Volzhsky Pipe Plant for Russia’s leading steelmakers

TMK hosted the 18th International Steel Summit Russian Steel: Growth Strategy, a key industry event in the Russian iron and steel industry, at its Volzhsky Pipe Plant. The summit brought together Russian Steel Association member companies, representatives of federal and regional authorities and Russian and international organizations to discuss prospects for the industry’s post-pandemic recovery and growth, strategic priorities and the sustainability performance of industrial companies.

The event was opened by Andrei Bocharov, Governor of the Volgograd Region, and Dmitry Pumpyanskiy, Chairman of TMK’s Board of Directors and a member of the Supervisory Board of the Russian Steel Association. The participants were greeted by Yury Borisov, Russian Deputy Prime Minister, Denis Manturov, Russian Minister of Industry and Trade, and Maksim Reshetnikov, Russian Minister of Economic Development.

The Summit was attended by over 150 representatives of about 60 companies and organizations from Belarus, Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Russia, the UK and Ukraine. The business program was attended by senior officials from the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, Eurasian Economic Commission, Government of the Volgograd Region, World Steel Association, member companies of the Russian Steel Association and their international partners.

TMK representatives took part in all sessions of the program. The sessions covered industry trends in 2021, the outlook, agenda and challenges for the steel industry, new strategies and approaches to leadership in the steel market, integration of best environmental practices and building successful ecosystems and ESG strategies across the industry.

“The forum addressed the whole range of problems and achievements of the metals industry, one of the most technology-driven industries in the global economy. We use advanced equipment, drive upgrades of steel production capacities in Russia and bring online new arc furnace plants. All this helps Russia’s economy address the challenges it is facing today, and contributes to meeting the demand for steel, today’s most widely used construction material,” said Dmitry Pumpyanskiy.

The guests were shown around the main production sites of the Volzhsky Pipe Plant to get familiar with the production of high-tech steel pipe and best practices in occupational health and environment safety. Participants received a virtual reality-driven safety briefing in the plant’s multimedia Steel Safety Room, visited the electric arc furnace, electric-weld pipe and tube extrusion shops, as well as ECO HOUSE TMK, a new building housing the plant’s environmental units and now also doubling as a platform for the government, general public and regional businesses to discuss environmental initiatives.

The Russian Steel Summit is the leading discussion platform for Russian iron and steel manufacturers, set up by Eurasian Metals magazine in 2003 at the suggestion of the Russian Steel Association. Every year, it brings together national industry leaders, their foreign partners, state agencies, enterprises and organizations actively cooperating with metal makers. Since 2019, the Summit has been hosted by steel-making regions.
