Sergey Chikalov: TMK targets a 60% share of high-tech products in its sales mix

Speaking at the Horizons corporate forum of TMK and Sinara Group, Sergey Chikalov, TMK Deputy CEO for Technological Development and Technical Sales, discussed the development of specialty, niche products. He told the forum participants that TMK has plans to increase the share of high-tech products in its sales mix to 60%.

During the online conference, Sergey Chikalov noted that the Company is focused on developing the segment of high-tech specialty products and is among the world’s few leading manufacturers capable of producing high-tech tubular products. This gives TMK access to complex projects pursued by oil and gas majors. At the same time, the Company focuses not only on current but also on future market demands.

“Our advantage is that we can produce unique, high-performance products that are more complex and segment specific. These include a line of premium connections, highly corrosion-resistant pipes, drill pipes and stainless steel pipes, H2S-resistant and high-strength grade tubular products, products for subsea applications, and other developments. We plan to gradually increase the volume and share of these products so that they would make up at least 60% of TMK’s total sales mix. At the same time, our market share in some segments of the market for high-tech tubular solutions is already at least 80%, and we intend to actively expand the range of these products,” said Sergey Chikalov.

Today, TMK supplies high-tech tubular solutions to major offshore projects such as Sakhalin-1 and Sakhalin-2; the Company’s products are used in the development of challenging gas fields and the construction of gas pipelines, as well as in the nuclear power industry – TMK has started manufacturing a pilot batch of extra-long heat-exchange pipes for Russia’s first fast neutron reactor.

The Company is focused on launching the production of new products based on best business practices. In 2015, for example, TMK and Gazprom signed a Future Thing Agreement, which provides for own-funded development of unique tubular solutions to the customer’s requirements, which will then be guaranteed to be delivered to the partner’s facilities. The contract included the development of high-strength 13Cr tubing, a new TMK-C chrome and nickel alloy, H2S-resistant tubing with special dry lubricants and a number of other products.

Representatives of TMK and Sinara Group’s Russian and international divisions participate in the Horizons corporate forum, organized by TMK2U Corporate University. Over the course of two weeks, the Horizons online platform hosts meetings with top managers of Russian and international plants and entities, professional competitions, trainings at the Personal Effectiveness School and other events. The forum’s highlight is the TMK Youth Scientific and Technical Conference, the results of which are used by a judging panel to select the best innovative projects presented by young specialists for implementation within the group companies.
