TMK is the first in Russia to start production of cold-resistant high-collapse seamless pipes used in the construction of jackup rigs in arctic environments

OAO “TMK” (TMK) is the first in Russia to begin production of premium seamless pipes for jackup rigs used by Gazprom in its arctic shelf development projects.

TMK’s Volzhsky Pipe Plant produced this new range of pipes using a type of steel mostly used in shipbuilding.

Certification testing showed that this new TMK pipe range, produced from PCF 40W steel grade, offers higher cold-resistance properties and can be used in the construction of certain rig elements that are directly exposed to dynamic ice loads.

TMK premium pipes are currently used in the construction of the “Arcticheskaya 100” drilling rig designed for operation in the Barents Sea.

Gazprom is now conducting exploratory activities in the Barents, Kara, and Pechora Seas, and the Sea of Okhotsk. The Russian gas giant has already started its large scale Shtokman gas field development project.

“TMK is encouraging and strengthening its long-term partnership with Gazprom by offering the company unique high-performance products. TMK is currently innovating and developing new technologies in order to provide solutions to the challenging tasks associated with the development of the Arctic continental shelf”, stated TMK’s CEO, Konstantin Semerikov.
