A new pressure-tight joint for oil-well tubing was created in ТМК

The OAO “TMK” received the favorable statement on stand tests of the new thread joint “Premium” for oil-well tubing – “ТМК-FMT”. This thread joint has successfully passed comprehensive tests at OJSC “VNIITneft” and LLC “VNIIGAZ”. Following the results of these tests the following was established:
- the thread joint remains pressure-tight at tests by internal hydraulic pressure equal to 100% of the minimum yield limit of the tube body;
- the thread joint maintains gas leakproofness after not less than 75 cycles of spinning up and down under axial load;
- the established number of cycles multiply exceeds the similar indicator for oil-well tubing produced in accordance with GOST of API standards (American Petroleum Institute);
- the joint is steady against excessive makeup torque which is confirmed by stability of results of measurement of geometrical parameters of the thread joint;
- wear after execution of 75 cycles of spinning up and down is insignificant which is noted on the basis of results of measurement of geometrical parameters of the thread.

ТМК actively develops technologies for production of pressure-tight thread joints of the Premium class as well as upset tubing. This is favored by close cooperation of TMK with the leading scientific and research institute of tube industry of Russia – OJSC “RosNITI”, – as well as activity of the Scientific Center for development of thread joint at Taganrog Metallurgical Works, included in ТМК.

Apart of the ТМК-FMT joint, specialist of the Company has already developed production of pressure-tight gasproof thread joints for casing pipes TMK-GF, TMK-FMC, TMK-TTL-01, TMK-CS and TMK-1.

Premium thread joints for tubing of oil and gas assortment (casing, oil-well and drilling ones) differ from standard threads of API standard by a high level of gasproofness and reliability. Premium joints are used during drilling operations in severe geological and technological conditions characterized by high pressure, temperature as well as mechanical loads, and for deep, underwater, inclined and horizontal types of drilling.
