TMK and SMS MEER sign contract on the delivery of equipment

TMK and the company SMS MEER (Germany), one of the world’s leading producers of metallurgical equipment, have signed a contract on the delivery of a pipe-rolling plant with continuous mill. The equipment will be installed at the Taganrog Metallurgical Works, affiliated to TMK. The new pipe-rolling plant will enable the company to increase its production capacity, expand its range and raise the quality of its output. The new mill is due to be commissioned in the 1st quarter of 2008.

In the words of SMS MEER President Joahim Shenbek, the pipe-rolling plant with continuous mill (Premium Quality Finishing) is a new company development and will be the first on the Russian market. “The new equipment will be a quality breakthrough in the field of seamless pipe production,” underlined Joahim Shenbek.

Konstantin Semerikov, TMK General Director, noted that 2006 is the year for the large-scale implementation of a programme of strategic investments in the development of production capacity. By the end of 2006, the total volume of investment funds will have reached US$400m. The best achievements of world metallurgical machine building are being used to modernize production. In accordance with this main criterion, the company SMS MEER deservedly won the tender to supply pipe-rolling equipment for Taganrog Metallurgical Works.

The productiveness of the new plant will amount to 600,000 tonnes of pipes per year. The equipment will produce oil pipes (casing, pump-compressor, drill pipes) according to international standards, as well as pipes for machine building with diameter from 73 to 273 mm and wall thickness from 5 to 25 mm. The equipment weighs approximately 7,000 tonnes.
