The Taganrog Metallurgical Works has been certified according to international standards in the field of ecological management

At the beginning of November at Taganrog Metallurgical Works, part of the TMK, the second stage of a certificated audit conducted by the company QMI (Canada) was implemented. The Canadian experts checked the conformity of the Environmental Control System of OJSC TAGMET with ISO standard 14001:2004 “Ecological management systems. Application requirements and guidelines.”During the audit, the activity of the plant in the fields of the calculation, control and reduction of emissions into the atmosphere, the dumping of sewage, and the formation of waste, as well as the economic use of energy resources was analyzed. Documentation relating to the environmental control system was also checked for conformity with the requirements of ISO standard 14001:2004 and environmental legislation. The audit was preceded by large-scale work on implementing the environmental control system at the plant. At present a programme of environmental protection measures has been developed and is being realized as part of the investment programme for the re-equipping of OJSC TAGMET over the period 2005-2010. The introduction of modern technologies and equipment, dust-cleaning apparatus, as well as an effective method of recycling waste, has enabled the plant to considerably lower the level of harmful emissions into the atmosphere and the formation of unusable production waste. The commission of a new pumping station and the transfer of sewage from a series of production units to reconstructed water treatment facilities have provided an opportunity to reuse cleaned effluent in reverse water supply systems. According to the results of the conducted audit, the Group Director Merian Zanardo gave a high assessment of OJSC TAGMET’s preparation for the certification stage concerning ISO international standard 14001:2004 and noted that the environmental control system of OJSC TAGMET conformed to the requirements of ISO standard 14001:2004 by being applicable, adequate and effective.
